Neuro Linguistic Programming is a methodology that enables you to change how we think, feel and act.
Thereby enabling us to achieve your desired outcomes in personal and professional life.
Let’s rewind to the 1970s.
The three NLP co-founders - Dr. John Grinder, Frank Pucelik, and Richard Bandler had a passion for understanding human behaviour.
What fascinated them, in particular, was understanding what geniuses are doing differently which yields them the results they achieve. Consequently, this chartered a path for them to learn and apply what geniuses do so they could achieve similar results that the geniuses achieve.
At first they studied the patterns of the most effective psychotherapists of their time who were:
1 - Virginia Satir- Renowned Family Therapist
2 - Dr. Milton Erickson - Pioneer of Conversational Hypnotherapy.
3 - Fritz Perls - Gestalt therapist
Each of them had a high success rate and quicker results in enabling people to overcome the challenges they had in their personal and professional life.
The co-creators of NLP decided to study their methods closely.
They were keen to decode:
What makes these therapists so effective in creating transformations?
This process of decoding excellence came to be known as NLP Modelling.
Although NLP was born out of modelling psychotherapists. But excellence isn’t limited to therapy. It exists in every field – from business to education to sports and performances.
Hence, there after, they studied the patterns of geniuses in other fields of human endeavor.
Hence, NLP is often described as: “NLP is the study of excellence.”
Based on NLP Modelling, a number of NLP techniques and tools were created, which are now taught in NLP courses.
That’s how NLP began – as a way to study excellence, and eventually, as a powerful approach to enhance our personal and professional growth.
Before we get an understanding of the full form of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), let’s dive into the world of NLP with an activity now.
- Look around the room you are in and count the number of objects in black colour.
Answer:
How many objects did you count which are in white?
Since your focus was on counting the number of objects in black colour, you didn’t notice many objects in white colour. Isn’t it?
This concept is called 'deletion'. Since at a neurological level, you deleted certain information. Similarly, were you aware of the sensation on your feet until I’m asking you to do that now?
There are millions of bits of information around you right now and at every moment.
However, there are certain limitations to the amount of information you can absorb through your senses.
For instance, you cannot see bacteria with your naked eyes, but it exists, isn’t it?
However, you can train your neurology to receive much more information from the world around you.
Consequently, this will enable you to become closer to reality and not get stuck with your perceptions of the world.
You will spend ample time training at a neurological level in the Transformative NLP trainings, thereby going beyond your perceptions which you are carrying.
Did you know?
There are many more than 5 senses and no, I don’t mean to include the 6th sense.
Linguistic is the language/ word/label we give to the information we receive through our senses.
Our experiences, beliefs and values determine the word we give to the information we receive through the senses.
For instance,
Experiences: We call an apple an apple because, in our childhood, we were taught what an apple looks like. Although maybe for the generations to come, apple could only mean an iMac.
Beliefs and Values: Stealing is labeled “bad” because, since childhood, we were taught that. Although, on a lighter note, stealing someone’s heart may not be considered "bad” after all.
Interestingly, we can experience our realities differently by changing or modifying our language.
If you keep doing what you always did, you keep getting what you always got.
Programming is the set of of our habits, actions, and behaviours we repeat consciously and unconsciously.
Some patterns of behaviour serve us. They help us get the results we want.
However, some behaviours do not yield our desired results.
“Insanity is when you keep doing the same thing and are expecting a different result.” – Albert Einstein
That’s why one of the most powerful aspects of NLP is the ability to reprogram our patterns.
Through NLP techniques and tools, participants in the Transformative NLP courses learn to let go of limiting and unhealthy behavioural patterns and program your mind to achieve your desired outcomes in life.
An activity you could now do is to affirm the following 3 sentences.
(Repeat the first sentence multiple times till you can feel emotions or sensations in your body. Thereafter, repeat the same for the second sentence a few times).
1 - I have to complete my work on time.
2 - I would love to complete my work on time.
3 - I choose to complete my work on time.
What differences did you notice?
NLP is a study of subjective experience. Hence each person doing the above activity could have a different experience.
However, what we can conclude is that words impact our neurology.
In your life, you might have experienced that certain words said to you by someone have given you immense joy. Also, some words have hurt you. Hasn’t it?
Hence, being mindful of our words is the key to experiencing a different reality. Moreover, the words we use to communicate with ourselves is the key to living a fulfilling life
“Communication is to relationship, what breath is to life” – Virginia Satir.
“In life, you are given a bag of moments. You don’t know how many you have. Learning NLP is about maximizing these moments.” - Richard Bandler

NLP is versatile. It can be applied anywhere, by anyone who wants to enhance the quality of their personal or professional life.
Myth 1: NLP is about manipulation.
Fact: NLP is not about controlling others. It’s about awareness and choice — helping you understand patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving, and giving you tools to create positive change for yourself and others.
Myth 2: NLP is only for therapy.
Fact: Besides therapy, NLP can be applied in everyday life — from improving communication and relationships to enhancing personal performance or achieving goals.
Myth 3: NLP works only if you are a professional.
Fact: NLP can be used by anyone — students, homemakers, corporate professionals, performers, athletes, and even leaders.
By understanding the principles of NLP, we realize that it’s less about “magic” and more about noticing patterns, experimenting, and consciously creating outcomes that serve us better.
As John Grinder often emphasizes:
“Problem is not the problem, the state in which you enter the problem is the problem.”
“New Code NLP is the Ferrari of NLP” – John Grinder.
From the late 1970s, John Grinder stopped working with Richard Bandler and Frank Pucelik.
In the 1980s, John Grinder teamed up with Judith DeLozier and then with Carmen Bostic St. Clair to develop New Code NLP, which he regards as ‘the Ferrari of NLP’.John Grinder (NLP co-founder).
John Grinder had often noticed that many NLP Trainers and NLP Coaches were efficient in their facilitation of NLP Trainings and NLP Coaching but were not applying the NLP tools and techniques on themselves.
Hence, one of his intentions to develop New Code NLP was to create ways in which the NLP Trainers and NLP Coaches also improve their own life while they were applying the NLP techniques and tools on others.
John Grinder’s intention to develop New Code NLP was also to rectify the flaws that he found in NLP.
One of the major flaws in NLP – NLP techniques and tools, is that there is more involvement of the conscious mind than the unconscious mind. Just like people across the globe, Dr. John Grinder too acknowledges that the unconscious mind is much more powerful than the conscious mind.
Hence, in New Code NLP – New Code NLP techniques and tools, there is much more involvement of the unconscious mind.
For instance – the New Code NLP Games. The New Code NLP Games are designed in such a manner that they unleash the power and wisdom of the unconscious mind.
Therefore, this approach of New Code NLP enables an individual to go beyond the conscious limitation set by himself/herself.
Another major aspect of New Code NLP is that New Code NLP techniques address at the level of ‘state’ (neurology, biochemistry/emotion) rather than the behaviour.
Whereas in NLP, most of the NLP techniques address at the level of behaviour.
Since the ‘state’ is at a higher logical level than behaviour, by addressing the state, the behaviour gets addressed anyway.
As John Grinder often shared in his NLP trainings which I had attended as a participant and mentor:
Problem is not the problem, the state in which you enter the problem is the problem”

"NLP, or Neuro Linguistic Programming, is the study of excellence. In other words, what specifically genuises do differently that yields them the results. Based on this study, a number of NLP techniques and tools have been developed which are designed for us to achieve our desired outcomes in life.
NLP began in the 1970s when Dr. John Grinder, Frank Pucelik, and Richard Bandler studied three outstanding psychotherapists: Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir, and Dr. Milton Erickson.
They wanted to decode what made these experts so effective, and in doing so, created techniques and tools that anyone can use to achieve similar results.
You can find more information on the origins of NLP on History of NLP.
NLP works by helping us noticing and changing patterns in our thinking, language, and behavior so we can achieved our desired outcomes.
For example: NLP Reframing our thoughts:
Think of a situation that normally frustrates you. Now, try to reframe it — see it from a different perspective. Ask yourself: “What else could this mean?” or “How could this be helpful?” or "What is my learning from this situation?"
NLP is built on three core elements:
Neuro: How we process information through our senses and filter reality.
Linguistic: How language shapes our perception and communication.
Programming: How repeated actions, habits, and behaviours create outcomes in life.
By understanding and working with these elements, we can create meaningful changes in thinking, feeling, and behaviour.
NLP helps us become more mindful of our words and actions, improving both personal and professional relationships.
Participants often report greater confidence, reduced anxiety, improved performance, and enhanced emotional well-being.
It also equips us with tools to overcome procrastination, fears, and past emotional blocks.
An NLP Practitioner learns foundational techniques and applies them in daily life.
An NLP Master Practitioner goes deeper, working with advanced patterns and unconscious programming to create profound change.
Both levels enable participants to improve themselves and influence others positively, but the NLP Master Practitioner level provides more advanced insight and tools.
During the Transformative NLP trainings you will learn NLP Practitioner, NLP Master Practitioner as well as New Code NLP Practitioner
NLP can benefit anyone seeking personal or professional growth, including corporate professionals, educators, performers, athletes, health and wellness professionals, and homemakers.
New Code NLP engages the unconscious mind more deeply, uses state-based techniques, and incorporates exercises like NLP Games to create profound and lasting changes beyond conscious limitations.
“NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is a methodology for – explicitly mapping and tracking human experience – for the purpose of modelling, communicating more effectively and creating changes.”
- Michael Carroll (co-developer of New Code NLP)
“A modelling technology with a specific focus on the set of differences that make the difference between the performances of a ‘genius’ and an ‘average performer’ in the same field of activity.
The objective of modelling is- to explicate in a transferable and learnable way, those set of differences. The core activity of NLP is a mapping of tacit knowledge into an explicit model.”
– Dr. John Grinder and Carmen Bostic St Clair in their NLP book – ‘Whispering in the Wind’.
“Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) identifies a connection between the neurology, language and behavioural patterns that we learn through experiences. If used properly, it can be restructured to achieve specific goals.” – John Grinder“A modelling technology with a specific focus on the set of differences that make the difference between the performances of a ‘genius’ and an ‘average performer’ in the same field of activity.
